A best evidence topic in thoracic surgery was written according to a structured protocol. The question addressed was 'In patients undergoing Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS), does a uniport (single-port) or multiport technique convey benefit in terms of postoperative pain?' Altogether, 255 papers were found using the reported search, of which 12 represented the best evidence to answe...
متن کاملPain following thoracoscopic surgery: retrospective analysis between single-incision and three-port video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery
BACKGROUND The current trend in thoracoscopic surgery is to use fewer ports to decrease postoperative pain, chest wall paresthesia, and duration of hospital stay. In this study we compared the results of our current experience with single-incision thoracoscopic surgery (SITS) and conventional three-port video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (3P-VATS). METHODS From October 2011 to August 2012, ...
متن کاملSingle-port thoracoscopic surgery can be a first-line approach for elective thoracoscopic surgery.
BACKGROUND Thoracoscopic surgery has become very popular in recent years. Conventional thoracoscopic surgery requires three or more port wounds for manipulations of endoscopic instruments. For complicated cancer surgery, more port wounds and a larger thoracotomy wound may be required due to technical reasons. We want to investigate the effectiveness of single-port thoracoscopic approach in elec...
متن کاملTechnical aspects of single-port thoracoscopic surgery for lobectomy
Thoracoscopic Surgery is in common use in routine surgical practice. With the advancement of the various techniques and instruments required, mini wounds and fewer thoracoports become practical in recent years. Here, we report our experience of performing lobectomy with radical lymph node dissection in 3 patients using regular straight endoscopic instruments. We demonstrate the feasibility of s...
متن کاملGiant mediastinal mass: one-port video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery
A 45-year old man with intermittent dyspnea was found to have a large mediastinal mass on chest radiograph. Computerized tomography scan revealed a 14.7 cm anterior mediastinal mass with cystic and solid components. The patient underwent a thoracoscopic resection of the mass without complication. Techniques utilized during this surgery may be helpful in avoiding pitfalls for other surgeons.
